40-year-old Mathew Roach of Elgin, South Carolina was killed in a hunting accident today. The circumstances of the accident have not been released. His obituary says, “Matt loved his family with all his heart. He enjoyed spending time at the ocean, saltwater fishing, golf, Gamecock football, coaching baseball, grilling, ‘playing’ guitar, dancing in the living room with his wife and kids and making everyone laugh.”

Valeria Ortega, an innocent bystander, was shot and killed in Manhattan, New York yesterday on the sidewalk in broad daylight.  Ortega, age 64, was walking to the grocery store when shooting began on the street. “Ortega’s husband told [a reporter] that his wife was a good person and he feels awful for their two boys.”

In Natchitoches, Louisiana, an 8-year-old boy got hold of a stolen Taurus pistol and unintentionally shot himself in the hand. The sheriff’s office says the weapon was reported stolen in a vehicle burglary to the Natchitoches Police Department in January of 2022.
