Easton Thom, an 11-year old boy in Green Lake County, Wisconsin, was shot and killed today in an incident that authorities have deemed a hunting accident. Thom was a middle school student. He was flown to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities say the boy was shot in the chest when a 41-year-old man attempted to unload his firearm while placing it in the back seat of a vehicle. “At some point in that process, the firearm discharged and struck the victim as it travel[ed] through the back [of the] passenger [seat] of the vehicle,” an official said. The man involved in the incident has not been identified or charged.
A statement issued by the local school district said “[o]ur thoughts and prayers go out to the Thom family and friends, school staff, and the entire Berlin community.”
