In yet another incident that appears to have been caused by celebratory gunfire, an Akron, Ohio mother, Chelsey Jones, died today after being struck by a round that was fired from across a lake. The bullet apparently traveled more than a thousand feet and through a window before it struck Jones, where she was sitting on a couch. Bullet casings were found on a dock on the other side of the lake, but no one has come forward to accept responsibility.

“How in the world could this happen? It’s just one-in-a-million freak, senseless accident,” her boyfriend said. “There are so many mixed emotions right now. I’m beyond angry and I’m just trying to keep my cool for my daughters. It’s not going to do any good for them to see me upset and angry like that. Nothing good comes from that. So I’m just going to hug them and comfort them and just hope that they catch whoever did this.”

Jones’s daughters are 3 and 6.  “She was a great mother. The best mother. She would do anything for those kids,” said her boyfriend.
