On Mother’s Day, Christopher Edwards of Rocky Mount, North Carolina accidentally shot his mother, Sarah Hankerson.  She had come to his house to help Edwards manage his pit bull.  When the dog attacked Edwards, he fired one shot.  The round accidentally struck and killed his mom.

Edwards told a news station, “I lost my mom. She was an amazing woman. She was loving. We just ask for prayer from the community, and privacy and respect.”

Edwards has not been charged.  The police have said that the incident appears to be an accident.
