In Shreveport, Louisiana, two children, aged 3 and 4, apparently found a loaded gun in their home. The gun inevitably was fired and the four year old, Michael Thomas, Jr., was shot in the chest and killed. His younger sister was also injured. Two adults were home at the time of the incident. According to the report, police are waiting for a search warrant in order to conduct a further investigation.
Also in Shreveport today, in a separate incident, a two-year old found a gun on a couch and used it to shoot himself in the leg. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. A woman who was in same room as the toddler when the gun accident occurred is charged with second degree cruelty to children.
