Gun accidents involving children appear to have become so routine that they are sometimes barely reported.

In Florence, South Carolina, there was an accidental shooting involving a child that resulted in hospitalization. No other information was reported.

And in Detroit, Michigan, a five-year old was shot and taken to the hospital.  Either he or another child found his grandmother’s loaded pistol concealed under a bed.  The gun owner had a proper permit. According to the report, “[o]nly two months into 2022, … five children have been shot so far with unsecured guns — and one of those children was killed.”
