A Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin man shot himself in the hand while cleaning his gun.  His wife drove him to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Authorities point out that “[i]t is always advised to ensure a firearm is not loaded when cleaning it.”  It might also make sense to buy a gun with a prominent loaded chamber indicator.
