A Hendersonville, North Carolina three-year old found a loaded gun on Christmas day and shot herself.  She was airlifted to the hospital where she initially was undergoing treatment.

A later news story reported that the girl, Aylee Gordon, died at the hospital.  Her father, a retired sheriff’s captain, told police that Aylee had found the gun in a car.  Apparently, someone who was visiting for Christmas had left the loaded gun accessible in the vehicle.

There is an ongoing investigation.
