In Salisbury, North Carolina, teenage boys were passing a gun around as they played video games. A 13-year old was holding the gun when it went off and a 14 year-old boy was killed. According to police, the gun was stolen.
The mother of the 13-year old shooter told a reporter, “[n]one of them should have been in the presence of a firearm. That little boy that lost his life was my son’s best friend. That little boy was a part of my life just as well. It’s eating up everybody.”
She added, ““[h]e just wants to say that he’s sorry. He’s sorry, that’s all that it was, it was a big, big accident, and we can’t take that back.”
The boys’ high school was placed on lockdown after the incident as a precautionary measure.
