In Altamonte Springs, Florida, someone called police during a Zoom video conference when they saw and heard a toddler in the video background and then heard a loud noise. Police discovered that the toddler had found a loaded gun and shot his 21-year old mother, Shamaya Lynn, to death.
The report does not mention the type of gun that the child found or inquire about why gun manufacturers are allowed to make guns that a toddler can pick up and shoot. No mention of whether the gun had an external manual safety, an integrated gun lock, or a trigger pull that might have prevented the toddler from firing it.
This is the second incident in which a young child found a gun and shot a parent to death this week. And other similar incidents in the last 20 months are reported here.
