In Fort Worth, Texas, three-year old Lauryn Barrett found a gun in the door of the family car during a trip to Oakland Lake Park. She fired the gun and killed herself.
A witness said he looked out the window of his home to see a family begging for help. “I saw the woman on her hands and knees just up and down screaming,” he recalled.
“A woman in distress and I thought she was shot, and I then I looked at the girl and I saw blood and they were giving her first aid,” another witness said. “I was in tears because it was terrible for me to see that. It’s horrible,” he added. “I won’t forget it. I mean, how could you forget that?”
In a similar incident last Sunday in Dallas, an 11-year old boy was unintentionally shot and killed by a nine-year old who found a gun in a car while their caregiver was in a grocery store.
