In Greenville, North Carolina, an 8-year old boy found a loaded gun in the glove box of his family’s car and accidentally shot himself in the abdomen.  He later died at the hospital.

A police spokesperson said, “[g]uns can be very appealing to young children particularly children of this age and words cannot express the unimaginable loss this family is going through today and I know that they are likely replaying the events through their head right now to decipher if there’s anything they could’ve done differently so we certainly want to extend our support to the family.”  Police referred to the incident as a “tragic accident.”
