Continuing a spate of recent incidents in which people have been shot by relatives who mistakenly believed that they were defending their homes, a Port Salerno, Florida man shot and killed his pregnant wife.

“I just shot my wife. My life is over,” the unidentified man is quoted as saying.  He told investigators that he was sleeping and that he thought he heard an intruder.  A handgun with a light attached was found at the scene.

Although his wife has died, doctors managed to deliver the baby, who is in critical condition.
