In Greenwood, South Carolina, a nine-year old boy found a gun in the center console of the family car today and shot himself.  He was taken to the hospital with his parents, where his injuries are not considered life threatening.

There is an ongoing investigation, but no arrests have been made.  Certainly everyone is lucky that the boy was injured rather than killed, but under the law can the extent of his parents’ negligence be judged by the degree of their boy’s injuries?
