A two-year old girl who was caught in the crossfire when shots were fired is dead. A girl the police identified only as “Jo Jo” was in a car in Hammond, Indiana with her mother when the incident occurred. Jo Jo’s mother was unharmed.
According to police, neither Jo Jo nor her mother had a connection to either of the suspects in the shooting incident. She was, put simply, an innocent bystander.
A witness said, “Jo Jo was ‘covered in blood.’ It was pretty horrifying.”
Police were viewing surveillance camera footage, but no one has been arrested. “Our hearts are heavy with this news, and now more than ever, we ask the public for help. This little girl’s life was stripped from her in an act of senseless violence that will forever impact those who knew her,” they said in a statement.
Jo Jo is the second Indiana two-year old to be victimized by unintended gun violence this week.
