A three-year old in St. Louis was shot and killed with a gun. Although the police did not confirm that he shot himself, they did call the shooting an accident.
“This is a heartbreaking and horrific tragedy,” St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson said in a statement. “It’s also a serious reminder of the responsibility that comes with having firearms in the house, especially with children.”
So far this year, the St. Louis police homicide division has handled five investigations involving deaths of children 16 and younger, compared to one in the same time period last year. Across the St. Louis region, nine children have died this year in gun violence.
