Two men were shot and killed at gatherings today where someone present was handling a gun. One of the gun accidents occurred in Cleveland Ohio. The other was in Houston, Texas, continuing a depressing pattern of unintentional shootings in and around that city.
In Cleveland, a 25-year old man was shot in the chest and killed at his own birthday party, an event apparently held despite Ohio’s ongoing emergency Covid-19 shutdown order. Investigators say preliminary information indicates that a 22-year-old relative was handling a handgun “and reportedly shot the victim believing it was unloaded.” The shooter was taken into custody.
In Houston, a man was killed in a gun accident at a gathering inside an apartment. “It appears at this time that it might have been an accidental shooting, in which one person was handling the weapon and it went off,” a police lieutenant said. Several people remained on the scene to assist police in an ongoing investigation.
