In another accident involving a police officer, this time in Detroit Michigan, an officer shot herself at police headquarters.  She was taken to the hospital where she was listed in serious condition.

Compared to most American gun owners, police officers undergo significant firearm safety training.  Even with training, accidents frequently occur.  Police, for their own safety, should take a leadership role through their purchasing power to press manufacturers for safer guns.
