A benefit was held today in Alexandria, Louisiana for a 20-year old man who has had nearly a dozen surgeries after accidentally shooting himself in the face. Christian Collister was replacing a part on his Glock in his car when it accidentally fired. He tells the story like this:
“So to take apart Glocks, you have to empty the chamber and then pull the trigger and slide the chamber back and push it forward. I pulled the trigger and when I did it just blew everything.”
In the absence of a loaded chamber indicator, he had forgotten to check whether the gun was loaded before pulling the trigger. It is unclear why it is necessary to pull the trigger to disassemble a Glock.
After the gunshot, Christian said, “I looked down at the center console, all I saw was my jaw and the row of teeth just sitting there so I was like okay, this is very serious.”
The purpose of today’s benefit is to help Christian pay for another surgery. “When you have a 40 caliber hollow point to the face and then you get out of the hospital in three weeks, it’s kind of amazing talking and everything again. It’s kind of crazy,” he said.
