In Memphis Tennessee, no charges were filed after a 11-year old boy found a gun in a cousin’s apartment when no adults were home. He accidentally shot and killed himself.
The boy found the gun in a holster under the mattress in a room that he was told was off limits to him. The gun’s safety was apparently on. “After considering all of the circumstances, including the age of the victim and the fact that the pistol was not in an easily accessible location, this tragic death has been ruled accidental,” according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Tennessee does not have a safe storage law. However, the Memphis Police Department gives away free gun locks.
