In California, a state that requires safe storage of guns, a five-year old boy found a gun in his home, shot himself, suffered extensive injuries and later died at the hospital. The boy was described by a family friend as “very, very sweet, young boy.” At the time of his death, the boy was under the supervision of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, which had placed him in foster care. The shooting occurred in his foster home, where one adult and several other children were also present.
